Teacher Feedback
Basically our feedback was that the video was quite good, but if we had 'dressed' it up more, for example wearing suits and such, and to sort out the mise-en-scene in general to fit with the genre conventions.

Music Video Class Feedback
Performance/lip-syncing- overall not a great performance, lack emotion towards the song.
Relationships between music and visuals- Most people said it worked very well, lyrics relevant to storyline.
Camera Work- Lack the variety of piano shots, but other narrative shots was good, but just mainly too repetitive.
Editing- Shots could be cut quicker, needed bit more transitions/fades.
Special Effects- No actually special effect used but good use of the lighting.
Mise-en-Scene/Costumes/Locations/Props- Very good use of the empty hall also the car which is used appropriate, But needed to use more costumes.

Footage
In yesterdays lesson we went out with a camera and filmed our performance footage. We set up the hall in quite a dark setting, with lights shining on the piano, to highlight that as the main focus point of the video. We have now uploaded it, and will lip-sync it, and discard the footage we don't want to use.

MUSIC PRODUCTION CRITICAL EVALUATION: PART 1
>>> Due on Moodle by 9am Monday 20th October
MUSIC PRODUCTION CRITICAL EVALUATION
Part 1 should be about 1500 words in length and should consider the planning, shooting and editing to rough cut stage. You should make use of your blog as a reference point throughout! Where you refer to real examples for comparison, give web references and as much detail as possible e.g. artist/song and video director.
Introduction
Explain what task you did for the AS production and how this one differs from it.
(e.g. thriller/kids Tv)
Part One
Explain briefly how the work came about and what the tasks were.
(Talk about learning more techniques for final Cut, analysing some real music videos and looking at student examples, talk from promo director, music range of choices, etc)
Which band/artist did your group choose and why?
(give some positive reasons here)
How did you ‘pitch’ for them?
(summarise briefly)
Where did you get your ideas from? Cite actual examples as shown on your blog!
What tasks had to be done in the research and planning phase? How were these handled and what could have been done to improve them?
(talk about storyboarding, animatic, organising places, props, equipment, people)
How did the group come to decisions about approaches to the tasks to be completed? (what range of options did you consider and why did you opt for the choices you made?)
What roles did the various people in the group take on? Concentrate particularly on your role in the various activities.
Talk about any test footage you shot. What did you learn from doing these tests and from the animatic?
Write about the shoot. What went well/badly? what could you have done differently?
Consider your early editing and how you reached the rough cut stage. Outline this process and discuss decision-making you undertook.
What does the group feel about the rough cut? What feedback have you had from director/ other students etc? what still needs to be done?

Student Video Analysis
Song: Kano - Feel Free
This video is good for student work, it is not boring like a lot of rap/grime/hip-hop videos, and the lip-syncing has been done very well. The video suits the style of song and fits with the lyrics. However, the song could have been cut down a bit, so the video wasn't so long, but overall it is a good video.

Black The Ripper Ft. Rhymestein - Invisible Scarz Video Analysis
The video is very low budget and this does show, however it's still very effective, and it fits the song very well. It's no typical of grime videos which are often just an excuse to flash the 'bling'. The song has a message and the video tries to convey the message which it does very well. It shows the hard times that youths in London living on estates are going through which is not well publicized, but it also gives off the message to not let it get to you and to keep your head up. Therefore although not the best quality, it does the job it sets out to do and is very good in terms of Grime videos in general.

Storyboard
We finished the storyboard today and are going to take pictures of each shot for our animatic. We hope to have the animatic finished by the end of next lesson.
Basic Story
The basic story is about a girl who wants to leave (California for Boston). Shes leaving because her ex boyfriend has hurt her and drove her to leave to live a new life. She however is leaving with a new guy and her ex is angry and upset about this and is left depressed where he turns to drink. The Singer on the piano is telling the narrative whilst singing and the rest of our group will be acting.

More Music Videos
What our group likes about this music video is how the lead singing plays the piano and that when the whole band are playing together the setting of the black room, and in our music video we want to create the same kind of setting of a black room lit by fairy lights with the piano positioned in the center of the room with whoever playing and singing. We also like how the piano was shot in certain parts of the video for example at one point the piano keys were just shot where you should see the lead singer playing them.

Settings, Locations, Storyboards and Props
Our group have decided on certain locations to use in our music video for example, we have deiced to use the college hall where we will use the piano for the stat of the song where you hear the piano playing, we have deiced to use fairy lights to set a nice setting to transform the hall into a completely different place.
We have taken some photos of some outside settings around the college grounds which we might use as random places where you might see one of us walking around. Either Rob Lamo or David lip syncing or Louise doing something.
So far the props we have decided to use would be the piano and fairy lights.

Pitch
The song we have chosen for our music video is very romantic and soppy, so the theme and tone of our music video is going to have to be like that. A big part of the song is how the piano is played throughout, so a main pat of the music video will be having a piano in the video. So we as a group have decided to start with Rob or Lamo will be playing the piano in the college hall we however will be changing the setting of the hall into a dark place lit with lots and lots and lots of fairy (clear) lights. This will give of a good atmosphere for the song that he is singing from within.
The music video also has some narrative that the guy singing (Rob or Lamo) is singing about a girl that wants to move away and change her life, we could play on this by making a story up about why and how she wants to move what could have happened to her to make her want to leave. But we haven't quite decided what the narrative is.

Lyrics
Here is the lyrics to our music video.
"Boston"
In the light of the sun, is there anyone? Oh it has begun...
Oh dear you look so lost, eyes are red and tears are shed,
This world you must've crossed... you said...
You don't know me, you don't even care, oh yeah,
She said
You don't know me, and you don't wear my chains... oh yeah,
Essential yet appealed, carry all your thoughts across
An open field,
When flowers gaze at you... they're not the only ones who cry
When they see you
You said...
You don't know me, you don't even care, oh yeah,
She said
You don't know me, and you don't wear my chains... oh yeah,
She said I think I'll go to Boston...
I think I'll start a new life,
I think I'll start it over, where no one knows my name,
I'll get out of California, I'm tired of the weather,
I think I'll get a lover and fly em out to Spain...
I think I'll go to Boston,
I think that I'm just tired
I think I need a new town, to leave this all behind...
I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of the sunset,
I hear it's nice in the Summer, some snow would be nice... oh yeah,
Boston... where no one knows my name... yeah
Where no one knows my name...
Where no one knows my name...
Yeah Boston...
Where no one knows my name.
